Google Nest Wifi – A Complete Review

Google Nest wifi is an excellent 802.11ac mesh system. This system is a combination of sleek elements that supply wifi to even the most remote corners of your home. This new 2-piece system from Google is stylish in looks and reliable in performance. Also, it was first introduced in 2016, and the latest version is far better in all aspects. And, although Eero made this a popular concept, Google now can lead the mesh router market.  In this review about Google Nest wifi we will discuss more about its features , performance and pros and cons.

Features

Google Nest Wifi is capable of delivering 25% more coverage than the previous version. Additionally, it is available in many configurations. The basic Google Nesting kit comes with a router and a mesh point. Costlier versions can include more mesh points with the router. Additionally, the Nest’s wifi points can double as mini Nests – voice-activated speakers.

The systems deliver 360-degree audio using 40mm speaker drivers. Additionally, there are far-field microphones that are set on the top of the device. The device also comes enabled with Google Assistant voice circuitry and a Bluetooth radio feature. It primarily works as a Google Mini speaker and provides information regarding sports, news, weather, etc. You can also set alarms, stream music, use it to control other home smart devices. This is because the Nest uses the same app as the other Google Smart home products.

With the Google Nest wifi system, you can quickly check the internet speed and see the latest results. You can also allocate priority to selected devices by clicking on the ‘Devices’ tab. Another exciting feature is Family wifi. With this, you can grant or pause internet access to family members. You can also block access to certain websites with the SafeSearch feature.

On the downside, the Google Nest Wifi system does not include a dedicated backhaul wireless band. It is still dependent on 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ dual-band system. This is for connecting to devices as well as setting up the connection between the points and the router. Also, not all the features of the old Google Wifi app are available in the nest wifi. Therefore, you are required to have access to both for accessing some advanced features.

Performance

The design, as well as the setup of this product, is straightforward and easy. All you require is a Google account and an app on the mobile control device. The device must be placed in an open area for the best results. As there is no built-in modem, you have to connect the mesh router to the home modem. After this, you have to download the Google Home app and created an account. Once you have initiated the search in the app, it will automatically pick up the router.

Once connected, you are required to set up a password to secure the system. If you have a 2-pack, then all you have to do is tap on ‘yes’ to add a point. In close proximity, the Google device can garner up to 498Mbps. This reduces to 291MBPS at a distance of 30 feet. The device is also capable of providing you with sufficient bandwidth to stream 4K videos over the internet. Google Nest wifi can manage dozens of devices while delivering the same level of performance.

Google Nest Wifi system is an excellent way to get rid of wifi-dead zones in your home. Apart from ease of installation, the device comes with a throughput performance capability. Additionally, you can generate parental control and create access schedules. You can also pause the access to the internet conveniently. While you require apps to access certain advanced features, you can control others with the same app as your Google Smart home devices. Being a Google product, the system relies heavily on the cloud services of Google. This is true in case you want to select channels automatically, or if you require to perform remote network management
